say auf wiedersehen

it's weird having someone always by your side and then realize that they just vanished into thin air. it's just weird when someone becomes part of your daily routine, your everyday life. you txt each other every morning a simple "good morning" and wish each other a good day. you know every little detail of each other's lives and could even finish each other's sentences. when you're down, he/she will just treat you to ice cream and will give you a bear hug to top it all of. after that, you feel a lot better. you always think about each other and you both know that you love one another.

but then, he/she just disappears. his/her sweet texts and thoughtful presents aren't there anymore. he/she calls you "baby" and then ignores you. he/she becomes cold without any explanations at all. for the first few weeks, you let him/her have their own space, thinking that this will just pass. you continue to dream about your future with kids and having your own house.

but, he/she doesn't come back. she/he may be present but he/she isn't with you anymore in mind, body, and soul. (hay crappy line)

he/she continues to drift away until even you can't see his/her silhouette because he/she is just so far away already.

you mope around for days, weeks, months, and even years, hoping that he/she will come back soon with open arms.

to your dismay, he/she doesn't. he/she is near you but he/she has moved on. you hear his/her warm words and cheery laughter but this time, it isn't for you. it's for the person beside him/her.

you just have to bear all the pain, honey. it's time that you moved on. it may seem hard at first, yes even if you've been waiting for years, you just have to bear with it.

you can mope around for days and maybe weeks, but please don't turn them into years. (even though it already has)

now turn that frown into a smile and say auf wiedersehen, sayonara, paalam, or goodbye.

Long Live the Eagle

from New York Times (newspaper)

A Nation's Passion Lives in a Rivalry of Green versus Blue

By: Raphael Bartolomew

Published: September 22, 2007

QUEZON CITY, the Philippines, Sept. 21 — Senators, foreign diplomats, cabinet ministers, a smattering of Forbes’s 40 richest Filipinos, movie stars and enough professional basketball players to play five-on-five. They are the elite of Philippine society, and they all gather at Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City to watch the men’s basketball rivalry between the universities Ateneo de Manila and De La Salle.

Ateneo’s Eric Salamat driving in a crowd of La Salle defenders in a Philippine college basketball game.

La Salle Coach Franz Pumaren said, “The janitors in Araneta always say, ‘If there’s an Ateneo-La Salle game, once everybody’s out of the coliseum, it still smells good because of the all the socialites watching.’ ”

In the basketball-crazed Philippines, where former players have become senators and nearly every public square has its own court, it is hard to imagine a crowd like this assembling for any other event. Kristie A. Kenney, the United States ambassador, attended the season’s first meeting between Ateneo and La Salle in late July.

Ateneo and La Salle are the most prestigious private universities in the country. The question of which institution provides a superior education is a toss-up; the tie breakers take place on the basketball court.

Although Ateneo and La Salle have similar upper-class student bodies, their respective basketball teams are very different.

The Ateneo players have a squeaky-clean image. The team’s prize freshman, Kirk Long, came from Faith Academy, a high school in suburban Manila for the children of foreign missionaries. Guard Eric Salamat’s surname means thank you in Tagalog.

La Salle’s players have a menacing swagger, with tattoos, headbands, shaved heads and chin-strap beards. In 2005, La Salle revealed that two of its players had used phony high school equivalency results in their applications, and the team was suspended for the 2006 season.

The teams also play different styles, with somewhat different results. The De La Salle Green Archers won four straight national championships from 1998 to 2001 thanks to its vaunted trapping defense.

“The dreaded press; you know your guards will turn over the ball against it,” said Joel Banal, who coached Ateneo in 2002 and 2003. “I used to have nightmares about it.”

Ateneo plays textbook basketball, with man-to-man defense and an inside-out offense that relies on post-up moves and perimeter shooting. The Blue Eagles won the 2002 championship, their only title in the last 17 years.

If Ateneo wins Sunday’s game against the University of St. Thomas, it will face La Salle for the fourth time this season, in the national semifinals. Ateneo has won two of their three meetings this season, games decided by a total of 6 points.

In each of these nail-biters, the 15,000-seat arena was sold out, with supporters standing in aisles and stairwells. Almost everyone on La Salle’s side of the coliseum wore green. On the other side, Ateneo’s fans wore blue. Marching bands blared fight songs as spectators on both sides chanted.

The frenzied crowds are often led by some of the most prominent alumni. Senator Richard Gordon, a former Ateneo cheerleader, is renowned for sideline antics like jumping on the scorer’s table to rile up the crowd. La Salle counts the former finance secretary José Pardo and the shipping mogul Enrique Razon Jr. among its supporters.

The rivalry allows Manila’s elites to relive their carefree college days, said Ricky Palou, Ateneo’s athletic director. “It’s the passion they have for their alma mater,” he said. “They become immature. They act like kids.”

The fans’ excessive behavior is matched by the largesse that the alumni lavish on their teams. A group from Ateneo installed the hardwood floor used for the 2000 N.B.A. All-Star Game at the university gym. Not to be outdone, Razon donated about $1 million, which went toward refurbishing La Salle’s sports center and financing athletic scholarships.

The heightened atmosphere of the rivalry puts coaches and players under enormous pressure. When Joe Lipa coached Ateneo in the late 1990s, the former president Corazon Aquino, whose daughter Kris is a 1992 graduate, would call Lipa to check on the team’s progress, said Ricky Dandan, Lipa’s former assistant.

“You can lose to all the other teams, but not to La Salle,” Banal said.

When his team defeated La Salle for the championship in 2002, it was “my most fulfilling accomplishment,” Banal said, adding: “After that championship it’s like the whole Filipino nation knew me. Like if you go to a restaurant, you eat, you’re paying your bill, somebody from Ateneo got it already.”

But the shame of losing also haunts players and coaches. In the final game of the 2002 national championship series, the La Salle star Mike Cortez missed 11 of 13 shots. Afterward, La Salle students and alumni accused Cortez of throwing the game. Although Cortez is now an all-star guard in the Philippine professional league, many fans still regard him as a game fixer.

The rivalry has loosened the bond of friendship between the teams’ coaches. Ateneo Coach Norman Black and Pumaren won several professional titles together in the late 1980s with the San Miguel Beermen.

“If you’re part of the rivalry, you just don’t like each other,” Black said. “Franz played for me and he was my assistant coach, but that has little bearing on what’s happening right now. He’s the coach of La Salle; I’m the coach of Ateneo. Let the chips fall where they may.”

Raphael Bartholomew, who did research at Ateneo de Manila University and was an adjunct lecturer there, is writing a book about Philippine basketball.

the magic of cramming

i guess right now, i'm about a few meters past the entrance of Inferno aka hell. hayayay. i feel proud though, i finally finished reading the book assigned to us in Lit. it's called Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Marquez. gawd it was so hard reading it. 0.o besides, i'd rather read the longest Hp book in exchange of that anytime. i also hated the ending. arrgh anyway, you might have not understood anything i said so i'll just shut up about saying anything about the book.

moving along, awhile ago, we had our Fil presentation. it actually went very well. it only took us about 5 minutes to brief the group for parts and everything was just impromptu. :) i actually felt kinda intimidated and bad when the other group had a short skit, an analysis that took them about 10 minutes, and background music. they really looked prepared despite that they only thought of their presentation a few hours ago. while we, on the other hand, took only about 10 minutes of fil time to present. i guess sir just kinda felt "moved" by our intro song. haha. the song kind goes like this:

sinaktan mo ako
sinasakal dinuduro
linampaso sa kalye
sinubsob sa may semento
winithdraw mo pa lahat ng savings ko
pineke mo pa ang signature ko
at nakuha mo pa akong sapakin

hindi iha, nasa ospital ka [in a pilit manly voice]
at ako'y napaisip kung bakit mahal pa rin kita

it's not really the exact lyrics but it kinda means like that. nakakagago pa ung boses ng singer. ganyan ang lyrics pero senti ung tono ng kanta. haha. shiiit, half of the group (me included) had this as their LSS for the rest of the day. arrgh. hahahaha :)

the best part was, we got the highest grade among all 3 groups. hehe. we got a 90. :D hehe. hey, a 90's great already considering we didn't do any extra preparations.

it's just ironic how i could prepare a presentation with so much patience and creativity then end up with a C+ . i actually got a B+ for a presentation we didn't put so much effort on.

oh well. life's full of ironies.

anyhoo, i'm off to cram again. gosh, i have so much to do! hahaha :P

toodles!

Fall Out Boy : Friends or Enemies Tour

yay! i watched Fall Out Boy yesterday! :D wooooh! hahaha :D grabe!

pete was soooo hot! [please reconsider on the place where we were seated] haha. we were seated in the Upper B section. yeah i know, we're losers! 0.o well it's better than not being able to watch anyway. :) besides, with a budget, it's really hard to complain. our seats, usually 50 pesos during UAAP games, magically turned into a whooping 890 fucking[that's all i understood when pete spoke] pesos.

it was pretty fun actually. it wasn't the usual boring concert where everybody's sitting down. it was a fuckin'[see? i'm getting used to this] ROCK CONCERT!!!! all throughout, we were just standing and jumping up and down. we didn't care if we stepped on each other's toes or nudged each other's shoulders. it was a hella fun night. [at least, i would want to think it that way]. chicosci was the opening act and they were great. :D they looked really realy cool. [they weren't wearing the usual, ratty, worn-out clothes the use in gigs]

it was weird sitting in the back. i'm so used to sitting up in front that it was hard for my ego to swallow the biiter truth. hahaha ang drama :))

hehe too bad the crowd was such a sucker. tsktsk. don't worry miggy and mong! to us, you were still fuckin' great. :)

they sang about 5-6 songs. after that, the MTV Vjs, who i don't think deserved to be called so [they didn't even stall. they just talked for about 5 minutes] blabbed

then...whoa?!

it's FALL OUT BOY!!!!

heehee. their performance was just oh so amazing! hehe :) they kept on breakdancing on the stage. :D plus, pete was "spokesperson" of the band! hehe, he "talked" [well duh] to us! he kept on saying "fucking" though 0.o hahaha and he kinda assumed that all of us were teenagers. he said "this is your night. away from teachers, parents. you guys up there! don't fuck this up. it doesn't matter if you're way up there or up here in front. now sing your fucking lungs out"

"who here are filipino guys? scream! [i screamed haha] have you ever experienced a one night stand? now, let's do it tonight! there in the moshpit! ever had a girl where you just made love all night? that you can't get enough of her that you just wanna eat her all up?"

[the next song was Thnks fr the mmrs]

okaaay, but the crowd kinda died down when he said those things. i think pete wasn't aware that we're kinda Catholics? hahaha but its' okay. we still know our values :p

the best song was This Aint a scene, It's a God damn Arms Race :) everybody was just getiing kinda crazy!

haha. but really, the 890 pesos wasn't really that worth it. bitiiin.

it was fun though. it was good escape from reality. it was a breather for my upcoming hell week! shit mehn. i think i'm going to die next week. i have a paper each for eng and lit. a practical exam for bio8, a long test 3 in botany, a presentation for Fil, and it's also my finals for pe! another test in math too! :((((((

waaaa hayayay. madugo ito. oh well.

BTW, i got my Fall Out Boy CD signed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ZOMG!!!! i should have cut Lit and eng! arrrgh! our maid was the one able to see the boys in broad daylight! she even got to shake their hands!!!! ahhhh! :(((( she's so lucky. i only saw them close to ants, while she got to touch them and got a good look of them! waaa really, dapat hindi na lang ako pumasok kahapon. only the first 200 were permitted to have their albums signed. and our maid was the 99th! waaaa. oh well. wala na akong magagawa. all i could do now is savor the essences of pete, joe, and patrick in my signed album! yay! :D

btw, megan and i walked a bit after the concert, and to our luck, we got to talk with mong! ahhh <3>just peep into my multiply for more pics :)

i'm off to cram again! wish me luck! cheers! here's to the upcoming hell week!

good thing maeirhofer's shot lacked a few mid-seconds!

yay! :D

oh yeah, yesterday, we did our botany project. hahaha it was so much fun! it was actually hilarious! we made a midget "play"! hahaha and we dubbed in our own version of ironwood tree lyrics on top of bulaklak, totoy bibo, may alaga akong puno, sinabawang gulay, and butterfly!(yup! the one in dance revo!) hahahaha shiyeeet. baka wala na akong maharap na mukha sa mga botany classmates ko after nito. :\

as in nakakawala talaga ng dignidad! hahaha shiyeet. i might post the video. but it is kinda long. plus, it's really really degrading :))

oh well, i basically didn't do anything this weekend. i just edited the video. gawd. ang hirap pala mag-edit nun. lalo na pag linagyan mo ng sing-a-long subs :))

bye for now! i'm off to cram! :P

just grow up

[edited]
something happened today. i happened to pass by the caf area before fil class when i bumped into some of my blockmates. i just came from the lib and already perked myself up to be alone for the next 3o minutes or so. the topic of our conversation is a bit censored though. not in a green way.

it went kinda like this:

i have a blockmate. i hate him. funny how we were "paired" together earlier this year. yak. utang na loob man!

(psst! not THAT, okay?!)

you expect us to be sensitive when we treat you but why are you sooo insensitive towards our feelings?

sige na nga, baka never na matapos ang entry na to pag tinuloy ko. basta, gusto ko lang mailabas iyong inis ko. grabe. kung hindi lang talaga ako nakapagpigil kanina, mabubugbog ko talaga yun ng di oras. at wala na akong pakialam ngayon kung magkasugat siya ulit. shiyeeet parang ang drama. haha. promise, looong story. this guy just really treats me like dirt. and he isn't even a "significant someone"! yak.

hindi na kasi joke yung mga ginagawa niya. please lang, kahit hindi ako maganda, treat me with respect dude. you're simply one-of-a-kind. never in my entire life have i met such a repulsive guy like you. your attitude sucks big time. everyone agrees with me.

pero diba, hindi na lang ako maagpapa-apekto pa sa mga pinagsasabi mo. besides, sino ka ba para sabihin yung mga yun? ni hindi na nga kita matawag kahit "friend" e. grabe ka talaga.

and i thought your kind of attitude only existed back in grade school.

what you say doesn't matter because you don't matter to me. no wonder even your hs classmates back away from you.

no wonder half of our block shies away from you. tingnan mo? hindi pa nga tapos ang 1st sem, madami na ang nakakilala ng totoong ikaw.

sino mas kawawa ngayon?

hayayay. i'll stop here. trashing you won't be considered as revenge. "this" kind of bashing is actually pathetic just like you, so i'll just let this go. tama na.

if i rant even more, that'll only prove that i'm letting my angsty and immature side take over me. parang yung ginagawa mo.

now, do us a favor and start acting like a man! (or a woman if you prefer being homo!) just grow up dude!

hug me

okay, okay. another week's about to begin again and i can't help but feel a bit dreary.

i got my ACCURATE advisory mark in lit last friday. turns out, some of the advisory marks were jumbled up due to the very bad weather. some lame excuse, noh? well that's what ms diaz said anyway. some of my english blockmates almost fainted when they realized that their real grade was a D instead of a C. my seatmate even got a C+ after thinking that she actually got a B+. tsktsk. pwede pala yun? ma-jumble ung grades mo sa computer sa loob ng isang kwartong may bubong at hindi naman nabasa dahil sa bagyo? hmmmm ano kaya yun?

heck, some even failed.

good thing my grade in lit is kinda acceptable. it is you know. i actually thought i was going to fail because i failed 2 quizzes. hello? 6 over ten dude. dapat daw 70-75% hay, buti pa sa stc, 5 ang passing. i got a C+.

oh well. i had my math midterms last wednesday. it was kinda okay. the babble battalion just kept on beating their drums while we were answering, that's all. hay nako. i'm just hoping for the best.

i felt kinda disappointed though. for the whole day, i studied for my math midterms. i think i at least answered each question twice or thrice for the word problems. but to my dismay, only 2 word problems appeared in the test. and it was easy. tipong stocked knowledge lang? kung anu-ano pa naman sinasagutan kong complicated problems sa ibang book. coz we all know how my math teacher can get right? up to now, we still haven't taken our Lt yet. he was sick daw. and! he doesn't really teach anyway. it's always seatwork, seatwork, and more seatwork. blah blah blah! my fingers are crossed. please o please lemme me have a good grade in my midterms.

we also watched some talks for Fil this week. pretty much a drag, actually. sir derain could have been more entertaining and knowledgeable. at least we got some bonus points for bearing it.

i also submitted my 2nd paper and 2 reaction papers! yay! i just hope he gives me a whole lot of bonuses for doing those in advance :)

i already started doing my feature article for Eng already, i'm writing about Divisoria! yay! so it's not boring-for me at least :)

ms diaz also gave our comments regarding the our lit presentations last friday. and whadya know? she said that the irony part was excellent! hahaha. yup, dati very well done lang tapos naging excellent. yay!

what pulled our grade down was the organization part. tsktsk. actually, i was really disappointed with our grade. and this grpmate of mine just kept on apologizing. arrrgh. i just wanted to say "dude, shut up will ya?!" hay nako. ang yabang pa niya noong una. tsktsk. oh well, this happens. next time, i'll surely pick another group. and please, if you're trying to apologize, don't poke me and blame someone else while whining!!! it irritates me even more.

okay, cool na ako. haha :P i wasn't able to go to keng's bday because of some play. hay. if only they told me earlier, then i could have gotten the saturday sched na lang! hay! i miss you guys. :((

anyway, last friday, i saw sandra along the SEC walk and i seriously hugged her. hay. i even cried. i just couldn't help it. my blockmates even saw me. haaay. i just miss hs and i think i'm beginning to break down from all this college stress. i know 1st yr isn't that tough, but you see, i'm such a weakling. i just miss being hugged and baby-ed. i miss the morning squishes, smiles, and the boisterous laughter. i miss the "mommy" people in iv2 who always never fail to make me smile when they hug me. obvious naman kasi, na hindi ko naman nayayakap ang mga guy blockmates ko. yeah sure, they're really fun to be with, but now, it's really obvious that i just simply can't go up to them and ask for a hug right? baka ano pa isipin nila. the jokes and the physical games may seem fun and lively, but it's really nice if i can also be comforted by them.

ganun pala pag lalaki ang mga kabarkada mo ngayon. when they see you crying, they won't even ask what's wrong and will just try to make you laugh. they would pull you to the nearest eating area to make you smile and would even joke around more. it's nice and all, but i still want a hug from time to time. at wag kayo mag-isip ng green. haha :P

thanks a bunch sandra, that kinda made feel better. :)

goodbye for now, i'm off to work with lotsa stuff!
